Hello.
Do you know me?
I am a movie fan.
My DVD collection is outgrowing my storage capacity...and yet, I will continue to buy more.
I don't get out to the theatre as much as I would like to but hopefully that will change with my children getting older. I dislike going to see a movie by myself but I'm thinking I need to get over that so I can get caught up on some of the newer releases.
One of my favorite things to do is to sit down with my kids and watch movies that I loved as a kid.
As a result, certain obsessions have taken hold.
Bubba Dude loves the Back to the Future trilogy.
"You built a time machine...out of a DeLorean?!"
"Loves" may not be the correct word for how deep his feelings go for these films. Any road trip we take, he has to bring those DVDs. Unfortunately, the last time we drove down to visit family in Oregon, he left one of his discs down there...and has not felt like watching any movies since.
Diva Princess has latched onto The Goonies.
"Don't say that. Never say that. Goonies never say die!"
I watched this movie so many times as a kid, by the time I was in fourth grade, I could recite the movie word.for.word. Complete with sound effects and score.
My daughter is very quickly following in my footsteps in this regard. She never gets tired of it! A sure fire way to blow her mind is to remind her that the same actor who played Mikey also played Samwise Gamgee in Lord of the Rings.
Both of The Kiddos really enjoy Ghostbusters.
"Listen...do you smell something?"
I just watched that the other night with them.
They were complaining about "the graphics". I assumed they were not appreciative of the CGI circa 1984. I tried to explain that back then, this was pretty awesome.
And then I recoiled when I realized how much I sounded like my dad, who exposed me to his childhood favorites like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts and Godzilla.
It makes me wonder what my kids will be telling their children while watching movies.
"Whoa. Dad, you call this 3D? This sucks!"
"I'll have you know that back in 2010, Avatar was the most cutting edge movie as far as 3D and computer animation go..."
"Whatever Dad. If you need me, I'll be in the 4D capsule watching the Harry Potter reboot."

Ghostbusters and Back to the Future rock! Can you believe I've never seen Goonies? Clearly I had an improverished childhood!

I am going to force my kids to watch Princess Bride because it is one of my favorites. Besides kids could user more culture, right?
